Social Security Disability “SSD”
You may be disabled, but you still have bills to pay. You are worried that Social Security has denied your claim. Don’t give up! Give your claim to us. We can help you get your Social Security Disability or SSD benefits. As a rule of thumb, SSD benfefits are available to those who have worked 5 of the last 10 years.
If you have been denied, we will work hard to find a way to get your case back on track. We know you would rather be working, but simply can’t anymore. You don’t need to feel bad about getting SSD benefits any more than you would feel bad about having your insurance company pay for the repairs to your car after an auto accident. SSD is not a hand-out, it’s an insurance policy that every worker pays for when they pay their Social Security SSD taxes on every paycheck. The amount of SSD benefits you will recieve is based on your earnings history and is typically higher than SSI benefits. If you qualify for SSD, you will qualify for Medicaid 24 months after you qualified to start receiving montly benfits.
Social Security SSI
Social Security SSI is available to those who have not worked 5 of the last 10 years AND whose income and assets are below certain amounts set by Social Security. SSI Benefits for 2014 were set at $721 for an individual and $1,082 for a couple. To qualify for SSI benefits in 2014, you must have had an income of less then $721 as an individual and assets for less than $2000 (or $3000 as a couple). If you have income, your SSI Social Security benefits will be lower than the maximum payments listed above. If you qualify for SSI benefits, you will also qualify for Medicaid as of your onset date or the month after your application, whichever is more recent.
